Poland's presidential office wants to continue close cooperation with the US, Lega leader Salvini hopes for an end to interventions, Brazil's government stays silent

President Nawrocki's advisers see no break and at the same time admonish Poland's government, in Rome Salvini interprets the result as a rejection of wars, Brasília sticks to its tradition.

Further voices from government camps in Europe and Latin America on the congressional election. The basis is projections according to which the Democrats win the Senate and the House of Representatives. There is no official final result yet.

Poland: continuity and a message for home. Marcin Przydacz, head of the Office of International Policy of President Karol Nawrocki, writes on X, according to RMF24 (4 November, 12:10 CET), that voters had opted for a change. Poland will continue the good cooperation “because it is our ally”. At the same time, he addresses the result as a warning to Prime Minister Donald Tusk: no government lasts forever.

The head of the Chancellery of the President, Zbigniew Bogucki, says on the broadcaster Telewizja Republika, according to the same report, that the Republicans had not won, but had not lost ignominiously either. Predictions are often shaped by wishful thinking, he says. On a permanent US base in Poland, he says decisions could change with a new government in Washington.

Italy: Salvini sees a rejection of wars. Lega leader Matteo Salvini hopes, according to Globalist (4 November, 22:29 CET), that the clear defeat will be understood as a stop to interventions in the world and will hasten the end of the two wars. As reasons he cites rising prices and diesel prices: voters had elected Trump for stability, but the wars had increased. He avoids criticising Trump himself.

Brazil: no official statement. President Lula's government does not intend to comment publicly on the result, according to SRzd (4 November, 18:07 CET). The Foreign Ministry traditionally does not comment on elections abroad. The report relies only on unnamed diplomats and government members, who internally regard the result as a clear weakening of Trump.

Earlier reactions from governments are under Reports, what the new Congress can do from January is in the timeline.
