AP projects Andrews as winner of the Senate election in South Carolina

According to the projection, the Democrat defeats Senator Darline Graham, who had been appointed after the death of her brother Lindsey Graham.

The news agency AP projects Democrat Annie Andrews as the winner of the Senate election in South Carolina. According to this projection, she prevails over Republican Senator Darline Graham. This is reported by the broadcaster WMBF and an AP text at PBS. The reports do not give the time of the projection. It is a projection, not an official final result.

According to WMBF, with an estimated 99 percent of votes counted, Andrews had 51.1 percent or 1,042,362 votes, Graham 46.7 percent or 951,165 votes. That is a gap of 91,197 votes. The page was last updated on 4 November 2026 at 18:49 CET. Candidates of the Libertarian Party and the Constitution Party also ran.

According to WMBF, Graham had been appointed to the seat after the death of her brother, Senator Lindsey Graham, on 11 July. According to the AP, she won the Republican primary only in a runoff, and President Trump supported her in the campaign. In the AP's voter survey, about two thirds of voters said Graham lacked the necessary experience. According to the AP, Graham told supporters in Columbia that conservatives had work ahead of them. The reports do not mention a formal concession.

According to the AP, Andrews is the first woman South Carolina has elected to the Senate. The last time a Democrat won a Senate election there was Fritz Hollings in 1998.

South Carolina is not one of the seven core races. The count on the Senate page had assigned the seat to the Republicans. With the projected wins in Texas, Ohio, Kansas, Iowa, Michigan, Maine and South Carolina, the Democrats would have 54 seats there, the Republicans 45. CBS News also gives at least 54 seats for the Democrats (as of 4 November, 21:10 CET). Alaska and Mississippi, both so far in Republican hands, remain open. More on the timing under counting. The bars on the election night page still show the election-day forecasts.
