Iran's parliament speaker Ghalibaf reads the Democrats' victory as Americans saying no to war

Tehran's chief negotiator welcomes the result on X and threatens Washington should it disregard the will of the voters.

Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf reacted to the result of the congressional election on the morning of 4 November 2026. He is also Iran's chief negotiator in the talks with the US. According to the Indian news agency ANI (7:07 CET), he wrote on X: “Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message.”

Whether out of conscience or because of the cost of living, Americans had voted against the war, Ghalibaf writes according to ANI. At the same time he warns: if the US government disregards the will of its voters in favor of foreign financiers and blackmailers, it will learn that Iran's no comes with a “nightmare”. The Malaysian newspaper Malay Mail (7:35 CET) renders the post identically. Neither report says exactly when Ghalibaf published it. The post itself could not be retrieved for this report.

It is the first known reaction by a senior Iranian politician to the result. Before the election, Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghaei had said Iran expected no new America from the election, see Reports. According to AP projections, the Democrats have won the Senate and the House of Representatives; there is no official final result yet. The state of play is under Senate and House of Representatives.

No statements on the result by the governments of Russia, China, Israel, Turkey, the Gulf states or the major European countries had been found by about 9:00 CET. Japan's government spokesman did not want to comment on the election.
