AP projects Cooper as winner of the Senate election in North Carolina

According to the projection, the Democrat wins a seat previously held by Republicans, the seven key races are still without a projection.

The news agency AP projects Democrat Roy Cooper as the winner of the Senate election in North Carolina. According to this projection, he prevails over Republican Michael Whatley. According to the broadcaster WBTV, the AP made the projection on 4 November 2026 at 2:23 CET. At that point, according to WBTV, Cooper had 66.8 percent and Whatley 31.6 percent. The report does not say how many votes had been counted by then. It is a projection, not an official final result.

The seat has so far been in Republican hands. The calculation under Senate already counts North Carolina for the Democrats as an assumption (Likely D). The starting position of 47 seats for the Democrats and 46 for the Republicans therefore remains the same.

For Maine, Texas, Ohio, Alaska, Iowa, Kansas and Michigan there is no projection by the AP or a major broadcaster as of 3:20 CET, as far as could be verified. There is also no projection of the majority in the House of Representatives or the Senate. The bars on election night still show the election-day forecasts.
