AP projects El-Sayed as winner of the Senate election in Michigan
According to the projection, the Democrat holds the open Democratic seat, Rogers has not conceded so far.
The news agency AP projects Democrat Abdul El-Sayed as the winner of the Senate election in Michigan. According to this projection, he prevails over Republican Mike Rogers. This is reported by the Detroit broadcasters WXYZ and WDIV, citing the AP, both published on 4 November 2026 at 8:28 CET. The reports do not give the time of the projection itself. It is a projection, not an official final result.
According to the results table at WDIV, with 72.4 percent of precincts counted, El-Sayed had 52 percent and Rogers 46 percent (accessed around 9:10 CET). The Libertarian Lydia Christensen and the independent Tim Long had 1 percent each. According to WXYZ, Rogers told supporters around 7:00 CET that he still saw a path to victory. The reports did not mention a concession by 9:15 CET.
The seat has so far been in Democratic hands; incumbent Gary Peters did not run again. Michigan does not change the projected majority in the Senate. In the calculation there, with the projected wins in Texas, Ohio, Kansas, Iowa and Michigan, the Democrats would have 52 seats and the Republicans 46.
This leaves Maine and Alaska without a projection. In Maine, Susan Collins has conceded defeat to Troy Jackson; the AP had not called the race as of the latest reports. In Alaska, the ranked-choice count follows on 18 November; more under counting. The bars on election night still show the election-day forecasts.
