AP projects a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives

After broadcasters and Decision Desk HQ, the news agency follows suit; it does not yet give a seat count.

The news agency AP projects that the Democrats will win the majority in the House of Representatives. This is stated in an AP text carried by the newspaper Northern Virginia Daily (published on 4 November 2026 at 7:31 CET). Scripps News also reports the projection, citing the AP (7:32 CET). Neither report gives the time of the projection itself. It is a projection, not an official final result.

Decision Desk HQ had already projected the majority at 3:09 CET, and several major broadcasters followed shortly before 4:00 CET. Together with the projected majority in the Senate, the Democrats would thus hold both chambers of Congress.

The AP does not give a seat count. According to Scripps, counting is still under way in several races, so the size of the majority remains open. In California, mail-in ballots count if they arrive by 10 November; more under counting. The election-day forecasts are under House of Representatives.
