Zelensky warns that Russia wants to use election day in the US for a new large-scale attack

In his evening address, the Ukrainian president links the congressional election to a warning of attacks on energy and logistics.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky links the congressional election in the US to a warning. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia is preparing a new massive attack, above all on energy and logistics. He said this in his evening address on 2 November 2026, published at 20:23 CET on the president's website.

According to Zelensky, Russia is counting on the world looking at the US on election day and overlooking the situation in Ukraine. He says: “Tomorrow the world will be watching the American midterms.” He also mentions Ukraine's difficulties with air defense and with Patriot missiles.

Zelensky calls for pressure on Russia until it has no alternative to ending the war. Russia's oil and gas revenues must not be played with, he says. America and the world could achieve this, he says. He does not express an expectation of any particular outcome of the election.

This is the assessment of the Ukrainian government. How other governments view the election is under Reports. When the results will come is on the election night page.
