Sheinbaum will respect the result of the congressional election and declines to assess the election on election day

At her morning press conference, Mexico's president declines any assessment and calls the dispute over islands in the Río Bravo a campaign issue in the US.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum commented on the US congressional election on election day at her morning press conference in the National Palace. She declined to give an assessment. According to the portal Infobae, she said: “No nos corresponde opinar el día de hoy”, that is: it is not our place to express an opinion today. The count in the US does not take just one day, she said. Mexico will wait for the result and respect it, whatever it turns out to be. Mexico will continue on its own path (Infobae, Samantha Godinez, 3 November 2026, 16:40 CET).

At the same press conference, Sheinbaum spoke about islands in the border river Río Bravo that the US side describes as part of Texas. According to Infobae, she called this a campaign statement. The islands are a matter for the joint boundary commission of Mexico and the US, she said. The report does not say who made the claim (Infobae, 3 November 2026, 16:14 CET).

According to the reports, she did not comment on the trade agreement with the US that day. An official transcript of the press conference was not available by early evening. This is the position of the Mexican government. Earlier reports on Mexico are under Reports. When the results will come is on the election night page.
