China's foreign ministry answers a question about strikes on Iran after the congressional election with a call for dialogue

Spokeswoman Mao Ning leaves the election itself without comment and refers to the line of Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

China's foreign ministry answered a question on election day that links the congressional election to the Middle East. At the regular press conference on 3 November 2026 at 8:00 CET, a reporter from the news agency AFP asked whether China fears that the US or Israel will resume their strikes on Iran after the congressional election.

Spokeswoman Mao Ning did not address the election itself. She referred to Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who she said had already set out China's position on the situation in the Gulf. China has always held that "military means do not help solve the problem". They only aggravate tensions and are in no one's interest. The parties involved should settle disputes through dialogue and negotiations.

The answer is reported by The Paper, a state-controlled outlet from Shanghai (The Paper, 3 November 2026, 8:26 CET). The official transcript of the foreign ministry had not yet been published at that time.

The question picks up a concern that also appears in the press of other countries: that new strikes on Iran could follow after the election. Beijing expresses no expectation about the outcome of the election. This is the position of the Chinese government. How other governments view the election is under Reports. When the results will come is on the election night page.
