Cook Political Report moves the Michigan Senate race from toss-up to Lean D

Cook calls it the last change to its Senate ratings before the election.

The Cook Political Report has moved the Michigan Senate race between Abdul El-Sayed (D) and Mike Rogers (R) from toss-up to Lean D. That is in Cook's post of 2 November 2026, last modified on 3 November around 0:08 CET, retrieved on 3 November 2026 around 8:45 CET. The Hill and Mediaite reported it first.

Cook calls this the last change to its Senate ratings before the election. The post does not re-rate any other races. Democrat Haley Stevens' endorsement of Rogers did not change the assessment, the change had already been planned beforehand, it says.

According to Cook, the Democrats are in a strong position to win the Senate. Control could still go either way, however. Maine, Texas, Ohio and Alaska thus remain toss-ups.

Ratings are assessments, not results. The seven races are on the Senate page.

Correction: An earlier version relied only on press reports and gave figures on Cook's House ratings that could not be verified at the primary source. They have been removed.
