Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghaei expects no new America from the congressional election

According to its Foreign Ministry, Tehran does not expect a different US policy towards Iran after the election.

Iran does not expect the congressional election on 3 November to change US policy. Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said so on 2 November 2026 at his weekly press conference in Tehran.

According to the Pakistani broadcaster Samaa TV, Baghaei answered a question about the election by saying Iran does not expect a new America to emerge from it. Washington has repeatedly chosen war over the past two years and undermined diplomatic processes, he said. Iran must be prepared for all scenarios. The financial service Newsquawk reported the statement at 9:25 CET.

At the same press conference, according to Samaa TV, Baghaei said Iran had communicated its conditions to the US and that the decision now lies with Washington.

Tehran thus joins the governments that expect no change of course in US foreign policy from the election. The Kremlin and Chancellor Merz said similar things earlier, see Reports.
