In the EU, 58 percent want the Democrats to win the congressional election
Euroscope survey in the 27 EU states, conducted from 21 to 30 September 2026, with figures for five countries and the party families.
In the EU, a majority wants the Democrats to win the US congressional election. That is the finding of a survey by Polling Europe Euroscope from Brussels, a collaboration between the institutes SWG (Italy) and OpinionWay (France). 5,067 adults in all 27 EU states were surveyed online from 21 to 30 September 2026. The quotas by age and gender follow Eurostat. The European news portal Eunews published the results on 27 October 2026.
Overall. 58 percent want the Democrats to win, 18 percent the Republicans. 24 percent want neither of the two parties.
By country. Five states are reported:
- Italy: Democrats 64 percent, Republicans 14 percent
- Germany: 60 to 18 percent
- France: 58 to 12 percent
- Spain: 58 to 25 percent
- Poland: 43 to 25 percent
By party family in the European Parliament. The differences run along political camps. Among Green voters, 80 percent want the Democrats to win, among the Social Democrats (S&D) 74, the Left 71, Renew Europe 69 and the European People's Party (EPP) 68 percent. Among the Patriots for Europe it is 45 percent, among the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) and Europe of Sovereign Nations (ESN) 41 percent each. In these three groups, 31 to 33 percent want the Republicans to win, in the others 10 to 18 percent.
The survey ended just over a month before the election. It measures wishes in Europe, not expectations of the outcome. The YouGov survey for Germany also showed clear differences by party in views of the US, see Reports. The forecasts for both chambers are on the Senate and House of Representatives pages.
